Prison Escapes

Prison Escape gives its breakout a moral footing: the man you are helping was wrongly accused, and is determined enough to attempt a desperate escape from a high-security prison. That framing matters more than it sounds, because it makes the guards obstacles in a story rather than opponents in an abstract puzzle. Getting him out means navigating complex puzzles and evading the vigilant guards patrolling each level, and the game is upfront that failure leaves him to the perils of prison rather than simply restarting a level. There are different levels with their own layouts and problems to solve, and the question the game keeps asking is whether you can beat the system.
